We all know work productivity is a very important part of our lives. It really doesn’t matter what the task is whether or not we are meeting deadlines for a company project, studying for exams or writing a blog.
In all these examples, there is certainly an element of productivity involved. To be honest with you, I’m not a guru when it comes to productivity but I certainly use a few strategies that I would like to share with my readers.
Here is a list of strategies to help boost your productivity:
- Setting Targets
This might sound really simple, but in fact it is in every sense of the word. When you have set goals for yourself, you will focus your energy into achieving them. Just to give you an example. I have a website that sells affiliate products.
If you already know, it is certainly not easy to make it online when you are a complete newbie. Right now I focus a lot on writing articles and I’ve set a target to have at least three articles published weekly on article directories.
It is an effort for me because I have never done it regularly. But I’ve made a commitment to have at least 3 articles published.
This is just one example of setting targets for yourself. To make this even more effective you can actually set yourself a target to achieve a specific goal or a reward.
Personally I find it difficult to focus on achieving a goal unless I write it down or I make a conscious effort to achieve it. Of course, there is no hard and fast rule how you want to achieve your target but until you have set targets in your endeavours you will find it difficult to achieve them.
- Find Your Inspiration
Inspiration is an important part of your work especially when repetition is involved. There are times when we are doing something so repeatedly, we lose our motivation to work. This is not unusual nor a harbinger of failure. Even great authors can’t continuously write.
Believe it or not sometimes you just have to stop doing what you are doing to find inspiration. It can be going for a walk or a jog. Even listening to music can get your creative juices flowing.
Sometimes you would find inspiration by seeking information from families, friends, blogs or just doing nothing at all.
- Organize your workspace
This might not work for you but for me when I see clutter on my desk, it annoys me and it really interrupts my flow. Sometimes all you need to do is to organize your desk. A neat and tidy working environment can take your mind off unnecessary distractions and drive you to complete you task.
As I work on my articles I usually, have a notepad by my side and a couple of stationeries to pen down any ideas that come to my mind not to mention a notebook with me of course.
Having all these things organized together does make me think better and improve my productivity.
- Prioritize
One of my biggest problem with doing any task is to try to do a few things at once. Say for instance I was working on my website the other day and my objective was to redesign my main site.
I was thinking that it is getting a bit bland and I thought maybe if I make some changes people would want to visit my website more. So when I started working on it, I begin to hit a roadblock and I didn’t know where to start. I got even more frustrated because I can’t seem to put my head on what to add or remove.
I finally realized that what’s more important is to add more content. The next part of it was to change bits and pieces of code to optimize my website. In the end I left my website design for another day.
Similarly, applying to this to other aspects of any task is important. Prioritize and then work your way down.
- Rest and Relax
When you are working hard on a task, at the end of the day you deserve a good rest. Working like a machine without stopping will wear you down, decreasing productivity and hence the quality of your work.
It really doesn’t matter what you are doing but the important thing here is that taking a break is in fact a really good thing. Studies have shown that when resting, your subconscious mind starts churning new ideas that you might not know while you are busy working.
Even if resting does not have any effect on your subconscious mind, an hour break or a day break works wonders physically and therefore your productivity.
Conclusion
It is certainly rewarding to see the fruits of your labour but you will be more pleased to see how you could have made it even better with the five strategies above. I hope you find this article helpful.
